When Premium TV won the contract to provide in match ‘near live’ and delayed highlights of the The English Premier League football for the next three seasons for use by over 50 global Internet and mobile licensees, they chose a new tapeless production system based on Geevs Servers and Lightworks Softworks editors to provide the fast efficient workflow they needed.
'Near live’ fast turnaround requires quick editing and voice-over while recording for up to 10 matches simultaneously. Associated metadata accompanies each highlight clip and a number of differently encoded clips of the same event are created for broadcasting to a range of devices and applications.
The following workflow provides Premium TV with an extremely fast turnaround of highlight clips and packages.

Award-Winning TAKE THAT DVD production on Lightworks

“Well Take That”, the programme of the first Concert by the re-formed Take That, was edited on Lightworks Alacrity by Henry Stein of Stein Films. It has since been broadcast on ITV 2 as a 75 min version, and as a 48 min version on ITV 1. The two hour DVD was the best selling music DVD when released and recently won the Cads award for the Best Live Music DVD.
The concert was shot over two nights with 20 HD cameras per night, with 33 iso-ed cameras used. The recordings were all loaded into the Lightworks Alacrity and made into a sync group. The advantage of the Lightworks has always been the ability to sync up both nights into the same multi camera edit.

Dassault Expands Video production network with Alacrity

The Production Team at Dassault Aviation have added a new Alacrity NLE to meet increased demand for their services. Their initial success has been built on a Touch-based SAN system.
The new Alacrity is easily added to the SAN network and integrates simply with the Graphics and Sounds Suites, based respectively on Adobe and Discreet, and Pyramix.

New Geevs SDE model now shipping

Geevs SDE is a new member of the Geevs SD Server family and provides a new low cost Broadcast
Server solution for those not requiring HD.
Two
configurations are shipping now. The first, Geevs SDE1, provides 1 record and 2 play channels.
The second, Geevs SDE2, has 2 record and 4 play channels. All channels have Digital and
Analogue, Video and Audio.
Geevs SDE1 has a list price of £6,250 or €9,375 and Geevs SDE2 has a list price of £7,250 or
€10,875. Both units are equipped with space for up to 6 internal hard drives providing a compact
unit but with capacity for 100+ hours of storage at 25 Mbits/sec.

Thelma Schoonmaker wins Oscar editing on Lightworks

Loyal Lightworks Film editor Thelma Schoonmaker won her third Academy Award on Feb. 25 in
Los Angeles for her work on the Boston crime drama "The Departed," which also won Best Picture,
Best Director for Martin Scorsese and Best Screenwriter for William Monahan, who adapted the
Hong Kong thriller "Infernal Affairs".
Thelma has been editing on Lightworks since 1994, when Scorsese decided to switch to digital
editing for “Casino".

Softworks is Perfect for Poppy

Skai, Athens launches New News channel with a flexible and impressive new look using Geevs MR+ Servers

Skai Channel, a well established and respected Greek broadcaster, has undergone a major upgrade of its facilities in Athens. The new News Studio was equipped with two large Barco HD capable Video Wall Displays as a background to the presenters. Using Geevs MR+ servers from Gee Broadcast Systems Ltd to provide High Definition playout for these studio backings, the studios are fed with clips to provide the background or “set”.
Skai contacted Gee Broadcast in late September after hearing of a similar installation that Gee Broadcast had provided for the BBC in London.

Softworks Version 1.1 released by Lightworks. October 2006 Following its successful launch at IBC 2006 Lightworks has today announced the release of Softworks Version1.1. Softworks is the first editing solution from Lightworks to be sold as a software only package. The Softworks maintains the well-loved Lightworks smooth jogging and scrubbing, including the smooth “Analogue Audio” output both forwards and backwards. 
ERTU, the Egyptian state broadcaster places major order for Lightworks Alacrity and Geevs systems. September 2006 After a rigorous competitive tender process the ERTU have awarded a contract to Gee Broadcast Systems Ltd. for 8 Alacrity Editors and 2 Geevs Servers. The Geevs SD Servers will be connected to the Alacrity editing systems by a Sharknet network to provide easy sharing of material. The Geevs Servers provide Ingest and Playout facilities to compliment the editing suites. 
Editor, Scott Hill, uses Lightworks’ New Alacrity MR to cut “Evan Almighty" September 2006 Effects-Heavy Universal Pictures Production is the First to Use New Multicam-Capable Lightworks Solution CHARLOTTESVILLE , USA : Scott Hill is editing Evan Almighty, the sequel to box office hit Bruce Almighty, on a new four-station Lightworks Alacrity MR system while the film is being shot on location in Virginia. Tom Shadyac is directing for Universal Pictures. “Several Alacrity MR workstations can easily be attached to a SAN in a fiber-channel environment,” says Seth Hallen, Lightworks VP Operations North America. “And there just is no faster editing system out there.” The movie stars Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman and John Goodman. It is scheduled for release in June, 2007. 
BBC News takes on a flexible new look with Geevs MR+ Servers September 2006 BBC News and current affairs productions from London studios N6 and TC7 received a “make-over” at the beginning of May. Using Geevs MR+ servers from Gee Broadcast Systems Ltd to provide up to 7 channels of frame-accurately locked High Definition playout for the studio backings, the studios have been re-equipped with multiple large screen HD capable projectors which are fed with clips from a bank of synchronized Geevs servers to provide the background or “set”.

Thelma Schoonmaker takes home editing Oscar "THE AVIATOR" cut on Lightworks

Inscriber Infocaster takes centre stage in ITN's Channel 4 news studio February 2005 Basingstoke, February 28th 2005 -Gee Broadcast Systems, UK distributor of TV graphics products from Inscriber, announces that Inscriber's Infocaster TV graphics system has been chosen by ITN to power three 50" plasma displays used as set dressing in its Channel 4 news studio. The news broadcaster has purchased five Infocaster systems.
